Name: Eden - Aslings Beach Rock Pool
Sited at the southern end of Aslings Beach at the foot
of the headland with a north-easterly aspect, this man-made pool is cut
into the beautiful red sandstone and filled by the tides.

1904
The Eden Progress Society debated the need for a swimming pool at the chosen
site of Ross Bay. Huge sharks in Twofold Bay alarmed swimmers and fishermen.
1960s and 1970s
Pupils at St Joseph's Catholic primary school were swimming 'at the old
rock pool'
in Eden.
1980s
Pupils at St Joseph's Catholic primary school had swimming lessons in
'the old rock pool' in Eden.
2002
The pool was handy for guests at the tourist park located on Aslings Beach.

The Yuin people were the first people to live around Twofold Bay.
1828
European settlement began when mainland
Australia's first shore-based whaling station was established at Twofold Bay.
Twentieth century
After the downturn
in whaling, commercial fishing dominated Eden, which became home to the largest
commercial fishing fleet in NSW.

The southernmost ocean rock pool in NSW. A venue for safe swimming, when whaling
and fishing practices attracted sharks inshore. Once important for school
swimming, this pool no longer offers the best public swimming venue in Eden.
Associated with Eden's schoolchildren, residents and visitors. Aesthetically
pleasing setting and views from the pool. Assessed significance: Local.
