Drinking alcohol

Winter swimming clubs have strong associations with alcohol. A few winter swimming clubs like the Bondi Icebergs and Maroubra Seals have their own licenced clubs. The Maroubra Seals club is located near Maroubra Beach, some distance from the Mahon pool where the Maroubra Seals hold their winter swimming competition.

Consumption of alcohol caused sufficient problems around some ocean baths on the Northern Beaches that alcohol-free zones were imposed by Warringah Shire.

Even consuming non-alcoholic drinks at the ocean baths can cause problems. Any broken glass poses a hazard to pool users. For this reason, glass bottles are banned from some ocean baths.

Recycling bins are rare at ocean baths, though their presence might reduce the hazards of broken glass.
