Bands often played at the openings of ocean baths and at swimming
carnivals.
The bands might be town bands, school bands or a Salvation Army Boys Home
band. Bands associated with the miners federation or the steelworks
performed at pools in the Illawarra.
At Forster during the 1940s, the ocean baths were run in conjunction at the
adjacent dance casino, where dance orchestras performed.
