Fundraising
Efforts to raise funds for the construction and maintenance of ocean
baths included: - public subscriptions and donations (especially for the Illawarra's ocean baths,
donation boxes were installed in hotels and guest-houses in Kiama. A box at
the baths still solicits donations for the Black Head pool), - sale of material excavated from the baths for use on local roads
(Sometimes the local Progress Association sold the material to the council),
and - dances, swimming carnivals, surf carnivals, picture nights and other
entertainments.
Groups involved in fundraising for the ocean baths included swimming clubs,
surf clubs, progress associations and schoolchildren.
Events at the baths have also served to raise funds for patriotic funds,
bands, hospitals and charities.
