Ring-of-rocks pools

Ring-of-rocks pools are easy to create on any sandy beach with a good supply of rocks nearby, as shown by Maroubra Lifesavers and Cronulla residents. At Copacabana in the 1950s, locals created a pool by rearranging small rocks and then blasting and using a council grader to deal with the larger rocks.

The ring-of-rocks pools require little maintenance, though their users/guardians may have to:
- clear them of rocks, sand or seaweed, and
- rearrange the rocks after storms.

One of the most elaborate ring-of-rocks baths was the Soldiers Baths at Newcastle, created in the late nineteenth century.
